Delicious and easy-to-make Taco Pinwheels filled with flavorful ground beef and cream cheese, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- Large wheat tortillas (10-12 inches in diameter)
- Full-fat cream cheese
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt
- Taco seasoning
- Ground beef
- Shredded cheese (Cheddar and Monterey Jack or Mexican cheese blend)
- Salsa (mild or medium, well-drained)
- Finely chopped green onions or chives (optional)
- Chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
- Finely diced jalapeños or green bell peppers (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef until golden. Drain excess fat and allow to cool completely.
- Prepare the ingredients: Take the full-fat cream cheese and sour cream (or Greek yogurt) out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes prior to mixing to reach room temperature.
- Make the filling: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Add the taco seasoning, cooled ground beef, shredded cheese, and drained salsa. Mix until well combined.
- Spread the tortillas: Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface and spread about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the filling evenly, avoiding the edges.
- Roll the tortilla: Start from the side without edges and roll the tortilla tightly, ensuring that the filling does not spill out. Repeat this step with the remaining tortillas.
- Chill and cut: Wrap each rolled tortilla in plastic wrap to preserve freshness. Refrigerate the rolls for at least 2-4 hours, ideally overnight, to enhance flavor. After chilling, cut each roll into 1 to 1.5 cm thick slices.
- Serve: Arrange the Taco Pinwheels decoratively on a serving platter and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
Notes
These pinwheels can be made in advance and should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
