Description

Indulge in a classic patty melt featuring juicy beef patties, creamy cheese, and crispy rye bread, bringing a delightful mix of nostalgia and comfort to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon real bacon bits
  • 1 teaspoon sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Butter your bread by thoroughly buttering one side of each slice of rye bread and set aside.
  2. Combine the ground beef, black pepper, sea salt, and onion powder in a mixing bowl.
  3. Form the beef mixture into three equal patties, about an inch thick.
  4. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Reduce to low heat and cook for 5 more minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, sweet relish, and sugar in a small bowl until smooth.
  8. Assemble the melts by placing a slice of rye bread in a second skillet, topping it with cheese and a beef patty.
  9. Spread the prepared sauce on the unbuttered side of another slice of bread and place it on top, sauce-side down.
  10. Heat the sandwich for 2-3 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  11. Repeat the assembly process until all patties are cooked, then serve and enjoy.

Notes

To save time, you can prepare the beef mixture and sauce a day in advance. Avoid overworking the ground beef to keep the patties tender.
